Galaxy - For the Millionth Time

Man, galaxy nails will be the death of me. Every time I do them, I love how they turned out, then I go on the internet and am reminded of how much better everyone else is at galaxies than I am. I think these are by far my best attempt and I think they would have been MUCH better if I hadn't made the galaxies quite so light. But, I'm getting closer and closer to my goal of making these look awesome. Do you have any tips for galaxy nails?

Bad Galaxies

I went a *little* over board on sponging on more colors with these galaxies and they turned out a little crazy looking. Oh well, lesson learned. Stop while you're ahead!

Today I'm wedding dress shopping for the very first time!!!

Galaxy Toes

In my never ending quest to make awesome galaxy nails, these are one of my newest creations. I posted some tips about galaxy nails here, so I won't bore you with that again. But I think you can see where I have corrected my mistakes... I use a light hand, and I put a TON of stars everywhere.

Sorry that (1) this is a crappy picture and (2) my feet are kinda gross here

Tips For Great Galaxy Nails

I went to Wales for two week this summer and I wanted a set of low maintenance yet flashy nails. So I decided to do a second attempt at galaxy nails. Well, when I first finished these I loved them and thought that they turned out perfectly -- basically that I was the galaxy master. But every time that I look at them now I see where I went wrong. I now know how to accomplish the best ever galaxy nails, and by looking at this picture I can explain to you what some "beginners" mistakes are. First, when sponging on color it is INSANELY important to use a light hand. You can see in these pictures that the colorful areas don't really blend into the background, giving a stark contrast between the nebula's and sky. This makes it look more like a mash of colors than the galaxy. The second really important lesson I learned from these nails was that you can never have enough stars. Here I was doing stars from memory and they ended up looking more like sesame seeds than stars. A good technique is to make the stars really small and put them in clusters. This makes areas appear more like the milky way and less like a hamburger. I hope these tips help... I feel like in every tutorial I've ever watched no one has mentioned anything like this and I know that I would have found it to be helpful information!

Galaxy Nails

For some reason I am under the impression that a nail artists "galaxy nails" are their announcement that they have arrived. These were my first attempt at galaxy nails, with no tools at all. All I used was a black polish as a base coat and I dabbed on a blue (I think Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear Blue) with the brush it comes with (this obviously ruined the brush). Then I used my mechanical pencil to dot on silver stars. While they were a good first attempt, I have done WAYYYYY better galaxy nails at this point... but you'll just have to wait and see how they turned out!
