The Evil Dead

I love horror films (if I were exaggerating -- like I tend to do -- I would say "more than anything"). Almost all of my favorite horror films come from the 1980's, and although my favorite genre is the slasher film, The Evil Dead is way at the top of my favorites list. So for these nails I did two different logos from the film, The Book of the Dead, and Ash's face. This was my first attempt at portraiture, and as you can tell, I am still learning. But I think that these nails were the turning point in my artistic abilities because I challenged myself with Ash's face and with lettering (another hard skill). Whenever I am asked about my nail art, I always say that these are the first set of nails I painted that made me feel like an artist. And I think that every time I've painted my nails since these has been exponentially better that anything I did before them. I was so happy when I did these that I finally hit my stride -- and I couldn't be happier that it happened with something as cool as The Evil Dead!

The Iron Giant

My boyfriend Ron loves movies. One of the few (he would say "many") movies that he really wanted me to see but I resisted was The Iron Giant. I just couldn't imagine it being all that great. It's a children's sci-fi movie essentially so I assumed the only reason Ron thought it was so great was because he had happy childhood memories around it (plus he's a boy). Of course as soon as he finally convinced me to give it a chance, I ended up loving it! The animation was amazing, the storyline was touching and interesting, and the characters were awesome. So when I decided to do The Iron Giant nails, I obviously told Ron that they were all for him, little does he know (I guess until now) that they were totally for me because I loved this movie!

Also, I don't know why Ron took so long to convince me to see the movie, he could have just told me that Jennifer Aniston did voices for it and I would have immediately watched it. Silly Ron.

MST3K!

For our first date ever, Ron and I went to a 12 hour movie marathon. Not only that, but it was in Boston (a six hour drive away). We had only spoken about 5 words to each other before spending those 24 straight hours together. When we got back in Rochester, expecting to be exhausted and part ways, we realized that we wanted nothing more than to watch more movies together! We watched a Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode (Ron thinks it was Zombie Nightmare) and probably another few movies. Now we have a friend who is working with Rifftrax (the creators of MST3K's new baby). So these nails were for him and for memories of how awesome the show was! The left hand (bottom) is the silhouette of Tom Servo, Mike Nelson, and Crow as the peanut gallery. And the right hand just simply says MST3K.

Taco Bell!

I love Taco Bell more than any other food. I have gone through many long phases in my life where I have eaten Taco Bell 4+ times a week. And to this day if a week goes by that doesn't have Taco Bell in it, I get a bit crazy. My amazing boyfriend supports my... habit... by driving almost 15 minutes from our apartment to the closest Taco Bell entirely too often. Luckily for him, there is now a Five Guys right next door to the Taco Bell, so he doesn't have to suffer through a million tacos a week.

A little while after I did these nails I when through the achieves of The Daily Nail's posts and saw her AMAZING Taco Bell nails. At some point I might try out her design!

Happy Birthday, Steve!

These nails were for my friend Steve's birthday show on January 22, 2011 played by Orodruin, Demontage, Infernal Abyss, and Malformed. It was the first time I did a design other than the one from the previous post.
