Zoombinis

These are the Zoombinis nails I did for Leslie at Polish Art Addiction! I loved doing these nails. I had never heard of the game Zoombinis before (it's a computer game that focuses on math and logic skills), but I can't wait to get my hands on it at some point! I will definitely be making my (future) children play this game! You can check out my post about these nails here.

Don't forget to check me out on Leslie's blog every Thursday for more Peculiar Polish. This week and next week will be some pretty awesome super hero/comic book nails!

Left Foot Yellow...

That's right, Twister nails! When I was a kid, I was amazing at Twister, I was all flexible and competitive. Now I'm a little bit less of both of those things. But it's still a super fun game. Since I've grown up (a little) I think that Twister was probably made for adults: Kids are small, flexible, and patient while adults are bumbling fools a lot of the time. So now my plan is to find some friends who will play Twister with me!

Minesweeper

Let me preface the rest of this post by saying: Yes I realize that Minesweeper is a single person game.

I can so kick your butt in Minesweeper. I am the best Minesweeper player of all time. Yeah, bragging. But seriously. I love Minesweeper. When I was a kid I didn't have video game consoles, or siblings, or any of the normal things you play with, but I did have a computer. So I became completely addicted to Minesweeper. It got so easy for me eventually that instead of trying to improve my time I would make up new rules like, "okay, this time I can't mark any bombs." That doesn't sound too hard, but it TOTALLY changes the game.

Now to put all that showboating aside, I love painting my nails with things that make me happy or remind me of something I love to do. Every time I looked down at my hands when I had these on, I became instantly happy. Do you have certain types of nails that make you happier than others?

M.C. Escher Cubes

Here are some M.C. Escher inspired cubes. I decided to splash some color onto the cubes from his Metamorphosis I, which is both less colorful and more complex than these nails. My friend Mike pointed out to me that these are also the cubes from the game Q*bert, so when I redo these again at some point, I'll probably make a little Q*bert and Coily (the snake).

Regardless of what they look like, they just look good (at least in my opinion)!

Asteroids

Of all the nails I've ever done, these were the most difficult and most time consuming. When I was growing up I loved playing Asteroids so much. I thought it was like the most clever game that anyone could ever invent (well, maybe with the exception of Centipede...). But painting these nails made me realize that when you paint something incredibly iconic, and small error will make it impossible to tell what you've painted. This is just because you have such a small space to work with, and really, in that space, everything must be perfect. I spent hours attempting to make my lines straighter and my dots more circular (yeah, I know, sometimes I'm insane). But I love the results. These remind me of every time I played this game and how much fun I had when I was doing it!

NYC

This was the summer of family and one of my favorite family vacations was when my boyfriend, his parents, one of his sisters, and I went to NYC. Ron and I go there often, so it isn't very exciting for us, but none of his family had been before. We got to take them to the Empire State building, the Statue of Liberty, and eat tons of food! At the end of the vacation I decided that I should do some nails to commemorate the trip. So these are my NYC nails! My right hand said "I *heart* NY" but I can't find a picture of it. Here's the story behind each nail:
Thumb: This was for Ron's mom, Susie. She loves playing Monopoly on facebook, so the "Go" from Monopoly reminds me of her
Index: This was for Ron's father, Vern. He is devout in his Christianity so I couldn't think of anything better to represent him than a cross
Middle: A kitty cat for Ron's sister Bonnye. Every time I ever see anything with a cat on it my reaction is always, "Oh my god, Bonnye would love that!"
Ring: Well, if you're read my blogs a bunch you can probably guess that the hamburger is for Ron. He loves hamburgers. A lot.
Pinky: And of course, I got the hand with painted nails... because let's be honest... I kind of like painting my nails.

Pacman

Left hand

Right hand

Left hand and right hand. I did these really fast, so I see an awful lot of imperfections. I had lots of friends asking if I would do some Pacman nails, which also seems to be a popular pattern amongst nail artists. They turned out okay, but I think I will repeat these at some point and do something a bit cooler. They're pretty sloppy.
