I'm Off to See the Wizard

Here are The Wizard of Oz nails. From thumb to pinky:
The yellow brick road
Dorothy's dress
Emerald City
The Wicked Witch of the East's stockings
Ruby slippers

The Emerald City was inspired by a YouTube video that I can no longer find and I don't recall who made it. I used these sparkles that I got from Michael's and when I top-coated them all the color like seeped off, so I ended up with silver sparkles. Whoops.

Star Wars

Above are my favorite nails that I've ever painted. The idea came to me after I painted the nails below, which have made their way onto many different hands. I thought to myself, what is a more unique way that I could do Star Wars nails? And I ended up with a complicated mess of characters. I decided to do a sort of "good verses evil" theme, so my left hand is all "good" characters including:
Thumb: Princess Leia's hair
Index: R2-D2
Middle: Chewbacca
Ring: X-Wing fighter
Pinky: Blue light saber
On my right hand I painted some of the "evil" characters. These included:
Thumb: Jabba the Hut
Index: Stormtrooper
Middle: Boba Fett
Ring: Tie fighter
Pinky: Red light saber

I loved these nails so much, so I hope that you get a kick out of checking them out!

Brazil

As I'm sure is obvious at this point, my boyfriend Ron and I love movies. It probably isn't a stretch to say that one of his all time favorite movies is Terry Gilliam's sci-fi classic Brazil. So as an early birthday present for Ron (whose real birthday falls on June 23) I painted Brazil nails. The thumb is the logo, the index finger is the baby mask, the middle finger is the wall of infinite filing cabinets , the ring finger is the singing telegrams outfit, and the pinky is the Ministry of Information logo. The entire reason that I did the signing telegram is because Ron believes that she is the most fantastic girl in the world. I'm not exactly sure what he likes about her, but he thinks she's great!

A Preview: Attack the Block

Okay, so usually I wouldn't go out of order like this, but I'm posting some nail art that I just did today. But it's for good reason: Attack the Block is such an awesome movie that I'm hoping these nails will inspire some people to go check it out! It's directed by Joe Cornish and produced by Edgar Wright (who did Shaun of the Dead) and has Nick Frost (Ed in Shaun of the Dead). It's about a bunch of inner city kids whose neighborhood becomes infested with aliens. It's a little bit of everything -- horror, sci-fi, comedy, action, and even has a touch of superheroism. It has a limited run in the U.S., but I would seriously check it out if it's in your city. You can find more details at the official website.

Left Hand: Logo
Right Hand: Alien fur and jaws, and meteorite

Fun Fact: I saw this movie in NYC and Spike Lee was in the theater!

ALLOW IT!

Blood and Gore

As I said in the Clapboard post, Ron is making a horror movie. The plot is pretty generic -- a bunch of kids go to work on a co-op and start disappearing -- but everything else about it is exciting and unique. I got enlisted to help out with a lot of things. I'm acting, doing special effects, and (da-da-da-daaaa the thing that I painted these nails for) helping with casting. For the casting, I got to read lines with all the actors who were trying out, and since I was so excited about the occasion, I figured it deserved special nail art! So I made blood drips and splatters on my nails! I went a little bit cartoon-y so that I didn't scare anyone away (but I guess in casting for a horror film, that might have been a good test). On my thumbs I did some eyeballs, which ended up having veins that were way too thick, but oh well! At some point I will do a post with bonus pictures of me doing goofy things with my nail art.... I took a bunch of pictures of these in front of Ron's eyes... It looks so weird!

Clapboard

Ron is making a horror movie, and as I'm sure is obvious, the two of us love movies. So he suggested that I do clapboard nails art! A clapboard is that thing that they hold in front of the screen before calling action when they say "scene 2, take 3." No one understood these nails at all when they were stationary so I made a gif of them in order to give you a better idea. I thought they turned out wonderfully, but since no one got it, I guess I define "success" in an odd way. On my thumbs I did a roll of film, to stick with the movie theme. These pictures are a perfect example of how messy I am when I paint my nails, if you look at my fingers you can see paint all over them!

The Iron Giant

My boyfriend Ron loves movies. One of the few (he would say "many") movies that he really wanted me to see but I resisted was The Iron Giant. I just couldn't imagine it being all that great. It's a children's sci-fi movie essentially so I assumed the only reason Ron thought it was so great was because he had happy childhood memories around it (plus he's a boy). Of course as soon as he finally convinced me to give it a chance, I ended up loving it! The animation was amazing, the storyline was touching and interesting, and the characters were awesome. So when I decided to do The Iron Giant nails, I obviously told Ron that they were all for him, little does he know (I guess until now) that they were totally for me because I loved this movie!

Also, I don't know why Ron took so long to convince me to see the movie, he could have just told me that Jennifer Aniston did voices for it and I would have immediately watched it. Silly Ron.

Hausu (House) a Film By Nobuhiko Obayashi

These are my favorite nails that I have painted to date. The movie is a trippy 1970's Japanese horror/fantasy film that is, without a doubt, one of the weirdest movies I've ever seen. My boyfriend Ron bought me a Hausu t-shirt after we saw the movie and at some point when I was coming up with "nail ideas" one of us thought of these. The left hand was the logo. And on the right hand I painted the cat face that is on the poster above and is the background for the middle picture below (that's the t-shirt Ron bought me). I posted the bottom picture to show that I, at first, had a difficult time painting the cat face until Ron suggested I paint an eye on two fingers and the mouth on the thumb, which turned out to look amazing
